Pretty in Pink

2010.03.14

So, when I was a little girl I *loathed* pink. I do not think there is a word that is stronger to use. My mom always dressed me in it since it was girly and pretty and feminine. And as any young girl does, they rebel. Slowly over the years, however, pink started to creep into my closet by way of me buying it. I would admire something that someone else had on or was on a display in a store and slowly but surely it became a dominant color in my wardrobe. As Coco Chanel stated, “The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!” I hate to admit it, most girls do, but mom was right. Pink is my go to color! Here’s a collection of my favorite things that are pink!

Stars and Stripes

2010.02.18

COCO STRIPESThe most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.” – Coco

Anyone who knows me knows I am mildly (read: insanely) obsessed with Mademoiselle Coco Chanel.  She is the epitome of class.  As far as I am concerned there is no other designer that compares.

That being said, stripes are not my thing.  I have never been able to wrap my head around wearing horizontal stripes.  For years anyone who was plus sized was told not to wear horizontal stripes because they make you look wider, etc.  Now, two of my girlfriends swear by stripes.  They both rock them in completely different ways.  I never think that they look “wide.”  In fact, I think they skim their figures and accent their waists.  Both ladies look fabulous in the stripes and have converted me.  I daresay that stripes will be moving into my closet this year.  I have two sweaters already that have very wide stripes.  One is Anna Scholz and one is Calvin Klein.  For the summer, I have fallen head over heels in love with these goodies from Target, Lane Bryant, Old Navy, Torrid, Etsy and Eshakti.

This dress on Etsy makes me want to wear it to all spring/summer functions.  It is so beautiful and delicate looking.  I could so see this dress being jazzed up with some open toe espadrilles and some gorgeous jewelry.  I can also see it with flip flops at a very casual brunch.  What do you think of it?

I am dying over this top from a great website that I stumbled across called Eshakti.  They will custom cut your clothing for a small fee and you know you are guaranteed to have a piece that fits you.  The only thing you have to do is enter your measurements ONCE in their website and it will save automatically!  In fact, their entire Nautical collection is making me giddy with happiness!  I am in love with the scarves and accessories.

Torrid is a website that I can always count on for something trendy and well priced.  This top reminds me of the summer and the beach and it can go with jeans and a boyfriend blazer or with bermuda shorts and a scarf!

Lane Bryant has a great Sweater Dress that is lightweight and a great silhouette for the curvy goddess!  I am digging this dress specifically for the neutrals and if you pair it right, you can wear it now with tights, knee high boots and a custom made blazer, or wait till the summer and rock it with some beautiful handmade leather sandals!

Target is another good option for low prices and trendy items.  I have this shirt and always throw a cashmere vest over it.  I am adoring the lightweight material and it is so comfortable!  It is a shirt that you will keep reaching for!

Old Navy has this blue striped top with pink piping!  I cannot describe how adorable I think it is!!!  I am definitely ordering it!

How are you wearing your stripes?

Pink October

2009.10.01

Pink is my favorite color.  October is my second favorite month because Fall is in full swing.  Breast Cancer is a cause close to my heart, so the three together make a great opportunity to shop and we all know how much I love to shop.

I have been getting some awesome email alerts as to who is having promotions this month.  Coach, Red Envelope, Saks, Bloomies, Viv and Ingrid to name a few.

Instyle.com has TWO lists of over 60 beautiful items that I am currently coveting for my yearly Breast Cancer donations.  I am loving the Bloomie’s Umbrella, the Cris Notti makeup bag is also lovely!  I am absolutely adoring the Vita Bracelet.  It goes with my bracelet that I received for my birthday from my hubby.  There are some lovely edible goodies on that list as well as skin care products that are definitely drool worthy!  Necklaces, scarves, jeans and some lovely jammies.  I can’t get enough of these lists. http://tinyurl.com/ybn75hx and http://tinyurl.com/y8bxtkr

Red Envelope has a jewelry box that I love from afar ever year.  I do not have the place for it, but it is truly amazing. http://tinyurl.com/ye8skvq There are so may compartments that it will hold tons of your bling :)

This scarf looks so lovely.  It has a great message!  I am a huge fan of pink scarves and the bigger the better.  I think that pink is so universally flattering for all skin tones.  It is my neutral.  http://tinyurl.com/ybo3x3m

Lee Denim day is TOMORROW!!!  I declare each Friday denim day, but this is for a beautiful cause.  Make sure that you wear your denim and donate tomorrow!!!  http://www.denimday.com/

Bloomies has a Pink Boutique.  They also have a Pink Pony Boutique courtesy of Ralph Lauren.  These boutiques are great places to get all sorts of goodies to add to your pink collection.  http://tinyurl.com/ydadwz9

A favorite website of mine for jewelry is Viv and Ingrid.  I have been a fan for years and have gotten a few lovely pieces from them.  This year, they have four pink pieces that will contribute to the cause. http://tinyurl.com/y9qnkvz

Coach is always a great place for beautiful objects that will make you feel good at the same time.  I never mind getting something beautiful for a cause. http://tinyurl.com/y9ndzez

The Pink Ribbon Store well, the name says it all.  http://tinyurl.com/6z27wc

Lastly, I urge all of you ladies to get your yearly breast exam.  You never know when it can save you or a loved one.  Remember all of those who lost their battle and those who are currently fighting bravely.
